Saudi Embassy Holds Iftar and Distributes Qur’ans and King Salman Dates at the University of Indonesia in Depok

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia once again reaffirmed its role in supporting religious activities during Ramadan in Indonesia by organizing a communal iftar (breaking of the fast) and distributing copies of the Holy Qur’an as well as packages of dates provided by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. This activity is part of the Ramadan 1447 Hijri program series, which is consistently carried out every year as a reflection of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Muslim communities around the world, including in Indonesia.

The program is a policy initiative introduced directly by King Salman together with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Its implementation is coordinated by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance as part of efforts to strengthen humanitarian relations and deepen the bonds of brotherhood between the people of Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.

The event took place on Monday, March 2, 2026, at around 4:00 PM Western Indonesia Time, at the Ukhuwah Islamiyah Mosque located within the University of Indonesia campus in Depok. The program was conducted in a solemn and welcoming atmosphere and was attended by hundreds of participants, including university students, community leaders, Islamic scholars, and representatives of educational institutions and religious organizations who followed the program until the time for breaking the fast.

On this occasion, a number of copies of the Holy Qur’an were distributed to members of the community and religious institutions with the aim of encouraging greater understanding and appreciation of the Qur’an. In addition, high-quality dates from King Salman were also distributed to the congregation as part of the iftar meal. Participants also enjoyed boxed meals featuring Middle Eastern cuisine, which further enhanced the atmosphere of togetherness and strengthened Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah) during the holy month of Ramadan.

The communal iftar gathering was not only seen as an act of sharing but also served as a platform to strengthen ties between representatives of the Saudi government and the Indonesian community. During the event, Ustaz Dr. Ali Saman Hasan served as the interpreter and official liaison for the Saudi Embassy, ensuring that the messages and communications delivered during the program could be clearly understood by all attendees.

Earlier, on February 11, 2026, the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Nasaruddin Umar, symbolically received hundreds of tons of date donations from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on behalf of the Indonesian government. This assistance is part of a national distribution program that will be delivered to various regions during the month of Ramadan to support iftar needs, particularly in mosques and religious social institutions.

This annual program reflects the strong relationship between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, not only in the fields of diplomacy and economics but also in religious and humanitarian cooperation. Through the distribution of Qur’ans and date assistance, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hopes that the joy of Ramadan can be widely experienced by Muslims across Indonesia while strengthening the values of solidarity, compassion, and Islamic brotherhood among nations.
